Biography
Shawn (the racer)
Back in 1996, Shawn hit Island Speedway on Grandlake Road in Sydney, Nova Scotia in his first stockcar. Sporting the number 01, Shawn hit the Thunder class running. That first season was terrible; but running in the Thunder class with a car right off the street was all the fun and challenge. The 1997 season began with a new outlook in the Thunder class and a new car number; 23. Why did Shawn switch to No. 23? to honour two great legends; Rusty Wallace, No. 2 and Dale Earnhardt, No. 3. During the '97/'98 season at Island Speedway, Shawn met Vance MacDonald and Dave Dyer; the following season, Shawn moved up to the Street class. With some good friends and lots of help, a brand new car was built at Jerry Hayes garage and car #23 was reborn in the Street class. Shawn and his No. 23 car have been running in the Street class at Island Speedway since then and in 2006, Shawn bought Shawn Cole's car. Rebuilt by Dave Dyer and Shawn, and of course with the help of the boys, Vance, Lyndon, Dougie, Fudd and Leonard. First day on the track in 2007, after a few practice laps, the throttle stuck wide open on turn 3 and slammed into the fence; the new car was destroyed. Back to the garage, with lots of long nights, No. 23 was rebuilt once again, with help from the boys, a few vetern racers (Freddie Boussard and Stephen Head) and Safway Auto Parts, Vassallo's Last Stop Auto & Jake Campbell's Salvage; No.23 was back on the track within six weeks after the crash. In the fall of 2008, Shawn travelled to Shediac, New Brunswick for the first time to compete in the Atlantic Championship Weekend. 26 cars were in the feature and Shawn took 14th place, which lite the spark for the next season. Ronnie Mackay joined the team in 2009 and with his brains for car setup and Dave Dyer's building

skills, Team Waterfield Racing became a force to be reckoned with. Revisited Shediac, New Brunswick for the second time to compete in the Mid-Summer Championship, Shawn won the qualifier race and took the championship feature. Just by chance, Ian Readey from Inside Track Magazine was in attendance that weekend and was impressed with our showing. Shawn was contacted by Ian a short time later, via a phone interview.
